Once the LEGO brick company and Star Wars movie creator, George Lucas, teamed up to make a range of toys, collectors have gone mad buying, collecting and then building LEGO sets and minifigures.I suppose that a lot of these sets are aimed at the high end builder and collector but no matter what I am sure that anyone, child or adult, would love to have one of these LEGO collectables. The Star Wars sets cover all the movies that have been made and each have a collection of little LEGO Star Wars minifigures with great little details on them. The sets vary a lot with how hard they are to build and how many bricks are included but that doesn't worry the movie fans as they want the minifigures and ships to re-enact their favourite scene from a movie.LEGO first licenced toy deal was these Star Wars collectible sets. The huge interest that Star Wars collectors and movie fans showed ended up being that the company has made more than 200 sets so far and more are coming. There are sets and minifigures based on all the movies - Episode One. The Phantom of the Menace, Episode Two. Attack of the Clones, Episode Three. Revenge of the Sith, Episode Four. A New Hope, Episode Five. The Empire Strikes Back, Episode Six Return of the Jedi, and the newest one The Clone Wars.So there is a set from your favourite episode, mine would be The Empire Strikes Back. The main characters in the movies are available, of course. Luke and Anakin Skywalker, R2-D2, C-3PO, Chewbacca, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Han Solo and Darth Vader, all in minifigure size. They have now reached the tenth anniversary and are celebrating it with specially mark sets with re-released set from 10 years ago.LEGO has also made Ultimate Collector series sets - these are not to minifigure scale but are big with high detail and look fantastic. These USC sets come with authenticity cards and a display stand to show them off. They are the largest sets the LEGO makes. The licensing deal that LEGO and George Lucas has is said to expire sometime around 2013, so making the available sets now even more rare and more popular for collectors. There is even a range of Star Wars games, in LEGO form, out for all the main consoles so this will make the LEGO Star Wars sets stay popular for a long time coming.

Rule the Galaxy with the Ultimate Republic Starship
As seen in the film Star Wars: The Clone Wars -- in which the heroic Jedi Knights try to restore peace to the Galaxy as more and more members of the Republic fall under the influence of the Dark Side -- the Venator-Class Republic Attack Cruiser provides an action-packed narrative setting to inspire imaginative play.
Every detail of the Republic flagship is packed into this 20-inch-long model, which includes a front panel that opens to reveal Palpatine's quarters, a hidden cannon under the wings, a drop-bomb launcher, an escape pod, and more. The Venator-Class Republic Attack Cruiser comes complete with five mini figures: Chancellor Palpatine, two of his elite Senate bodyguards, one Clone Trooper pilot, and one Clone Trooper gunner.
Building the Venator-Class Republic Attack Cruiser
With 1,170 pieces and two colorful instruction booklets, the Venator-Class Republic Attack Cruiser took our two adult testers approximately three-and-a-half hours to construct. The majority of the pieces come in shades of gray, so approaching construction requires a bit or organization and discipline. But once building is started, detailed step-by-step illustrations make assembly straightforward.
Overall, this set scores an excellent rating for its clever design elements. Just when you think you've discovered all the hidden weapons and command posts, you stumble across another. Our favorite features are the Palpatine mini figure -- complete with cloth cape and wrinkled brow -- the sliding gunner, the hidden Clone Trooper cockpit, the escape pod, the bomb dropper, and the Chancellor's enormous command center.
Finally, most of all, our testers enjoyed the way the narrative of this set allowed them to reenact the ship-to-ship combat seen in Star Wars: The Clone Wars. They also appreciated that the storyline is simple enough to make the set entertaining, whether or not your child has seen the film.

LEGO Star Wars Review 2010 Set 8084 Snow Trooper Battlepack
Star Wars Lego Battle packs are popular items and they are generally released in matching pairs. For the first wave of 2010 Lego has chosen to release two from Episode five, The Empire Strikes Back. The battle of Hoth took place at the beginning of the movie and matched snow suit clad rebel troopers against specially armoured Empire snow troopers, which is how LEGO has decided to release these battle packs. In most paired battle pack releases there is generally one of the pair that is more popular than the other.Previous paired releases have included the Episode Three Clone Trooper pack which was paired with the Separatist Droid pack or the Episode four Rebel Trooper set which was paired with a Storm Trooper set.In both those cases it was the bad guys that garnered most attention from fans wanting to build LEGO armies and it is fairly safe to say that this set will sell out more quickly than its matching rebel set, 8083 Hoth Rebel Trooper Pack.Set 8084, The Snow Trooper Battlepack, consists of 74 pieces and, as with all Star Wars battle packs, the highlight of the set is the amount of minifigures you get with this low priced set. There are a total of four figures in the set including two snow troopers, which will be highly sought after by Lego fans as they previously only appeared in high price sets such as the AT-AT walker and the Millennium Falcon. The set also comes with an AT-AT driver and an Imperial Officer, both also hard to come by in other sets. The small vehicles that come with the figures in a battle pack are generally hit and miss, with most being more miss that hit. This set comes with both a small gunner station and a snow speeder. The former is nothing special but the latter is quite a cool speeder. The design is similar to the new style speeders featured in the Republic Gunship and the Battle Of Endor sets, just white instead of brown.Overall this set is well worth the $10.99 price tag (slightly up on last season's battle packs) and expect most fans to purchase more than one.

Lego Star Wars Review Set 8037 Anakin's Y-Wing Starfighter
The Star Wars Lego Set 8039, Anakin's Y-Wing Starfighter is a model of the vehicle featured in the Clone Wars television series, episode Shadow of Malevolence where Anakin leads the Y Wings in a daring raid on General Greivous' ship Malevolence. The Y-Wings were also featured in the original trilogy movies, acting as bombing ships in the Battle Of Endor. The Lego set is representative of the Clone wars period as it comes with minifigures of Anakin Skywalker, his Padawan Ahsoka Tano and astromech droid R2-D2.The set comes with 570 pieces and the vehicle measures 17 inches (43.2cm) long by 7 inches (17.8cm) wide, making it quite a large vehicle. All the minifigures can be placed inside the vehicle, Anakin in the cockpit, Ahsoka in a central gunning turret and R2-D2 in the back.It is heavier and larger than would first appear in the pictures and is sturdy enough for fast paced play. There are a number of playable features on the ship. The turret guns move up and down but do not rotate, the cockpit opens as does a storage area in the back and by pressing a button in R2-D2's alcove missiles fire out from the front of the ship (there are no flick fire missiles on this model). There are only two stickers in the set which is a boon for Lego fans and the price per piece count is quite reasonable compared to other sets released in this wave.It is surprisingly large and sturdier than the previous Y-Wing releases (7150 and 7658) due to the fact that it has solid, filled-in engine boosters rather than the hollow design featured in earlier models. It is a highly recommended set for ardent fans and younger builders will enjoy its high 'swooshability' factor.

This review is from: LEGO Star Wars Venator-class Republic Attack Cruiser (8039) (Toy) My nine year old son had to have this, and after raiding his savings account and a few extra dollars from me, he was able to purchase it. It maybe took him five hours to build (because he would start play with what he had just put together before going on to the next page.). He had a great time building it and loves to play with it. It is a hundred times better then the Lego Imperial Star Destroyer for play with and does not fail apart like the Destroyer. 13 of 14 people found the following review helpful By nocheese4u (Cuyahoga Falls, OH United States) - See all my reviews = Durability: Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?) This review is from: LEGO Star Wars Venator-class Republic Attack Cruiser (8039) (Toy) My son saved his allowance and Birthday money for this ship even before it was available to buy. The ship came the day after it was purchased online and was built in 4 hours! My son is exstatic with the Attack Cruiser and has rebuilt it several times (after a rogue AT AT attack). This is a toy that keeps on giving! 16 of 18 people found the following review helpful = Durability: This review is from: LEGO Star Wars Venator-class Republic Attack Cruiser (8039) (Toy) 10 year old put it together by himself. the directions are well done. it was a great learning opportunity as he had to take apart a few things and rebuild them. he didn't get frustrated as he saw the progress he was making. when finished, the Republic Attack Cruiser is a little fragile and must be handled with care. that proved to be a little difficult for our builder, but he figured it out. Just be sure you have a space that can hold all the individual legos and the project, while it it being built. i would give this a high rating, if your child likes to build legos. |
